Tara Wilkinson, artist and co-owner of Andara Gallery, Astrid Young, singer-songwriter and sommelier-extraordinaire, and six wineries are collaborating to produce Vortex, an experience that combines art, music, and wine with technology.
“We are thrilled to be working with Astrid on this unique project”, says Ms. Wilkinson. “Together, we’re creating a unique a unique cultural experience for County residents and visitors alike.”
Painter Andrew Csafordi and photographer and digital artist Wilkinson have created a new exhibition of artworks inspired by songs on Astrid’s newest album, The Beautiful Can Get Away with Murder. A bottle of wine is paired with each VORTEX work of art and song. Closson Chase, Karlo Estates, The Grange of Prince Edward, Three Dog, Rosehall Run, and Sandbanks Estates all feature.
An NFC chip embedded in the tag of each VORTEX artwork, powered by Musical Bead, will play the song that inspired the art for viewers with smartphones, who can also view the artwork digitally, and see tasting notes about the paired wine.
The artworks offer completely different interpretations of the music. Csafordi uses the ancient technique of painting with melted beeswax, while Wilkinson offers a series of photographic portraits of women who now call Prince Edward County home.
Astrid Young and her band launch the exhibition with two ticketed performances at opening receptions on June 19th and 20th. The exhibition runs from June 21 to September 7th.
